Mission

Mission is very important to our life together at Southern Hills UMC. Our mission statement notes that “We are disciples serving God, building a community of grace and love.” Here are a few ways we try to live into that mission:

Project Transformation Summer Camp

Project Transformation is a summer literacy camp for underserved children in urban areas of Oklahoma.  The camp provides children one-on-one time with mentors and leadership in reading, computers, arts and crafts, music and theater, field trips and enrichment activities.  The program is sponsored by the Oklahoma United Methodist Conference, AmeriCorps, and community individuals and organizations.

Here at Southern Hills UMC, we have had a Project Transformation Summer Camp since 2007. If you would like to learn more about Project Transformation at Southern Hills, please call the church office at 918-743-2013.

Meals on Wheels

Southern Hills UMC volunteers pick up and deliver meals five days a week and prepare meals several times a year to help those who are homebound.

McClure School

Providing tutoring with students, one hour per week.  Assisting with school supplies and clothing needs.  Interested in volunteering?  Contact the church office at 918-743-2013

Exodus House

Exodus House is a six-month temporary residential project where people newly released from prison can live while they re-enter life successfully outside prison walls. They are in need of clothes and apartment furnishings.  Please contact the church office for more information on how you can help.

South Tulsa Community House

We deliver clothes, food, and other items to this important outlet of social services in our neighborhood. Each week we gather food in a special offering and deliver it to the Neighborhood House each month. Members have also helped out with children’s programs and office needs.

FISH (Furnishing Individuls Support and Hope)

FISH is a program to help people out of crisis situations (especially those pertaining to rent or utility bills) and toward stability.  While we cannot offer large amounts, we are often able to partner with other programs or provide other resources to help those in need.

Volunteers In Mission

Southern Hills UMC seeks to be a church that is active at every level of our world, financially and with our time as well. That’s why we have committed to sending out volunteers in mission internationally, nationally, in our state, and here in Tulsa. Previous trips have included a workday at Frances Willard Home in Tulsa, a weekend at Cookson Hills Ministry Center near Lake Tenkiller, a trip to Vancleave, Mississippi to help Katrina victims, and a trip to La Ceiba and Roatan , Honduras. We have future trips planned to Honduras, as well as return trips to Cookson, Frances Willard, and Vancleave.

To see more of our most recent trips, check out our mission blog at shumcvim.blogspot.com. Future trips are being scheduled now!
