Gentle Movement for a Health-full Life

Is Gentle Movement from Within

Greetings and Welcome to the Beginning of a New Year. This is a gentle reminder that The Gentle Movement Group will be meeting at 10:00 AM on each Wednesday. The past months we have been meeting have certainly been an inspiration to me and acts to keep me on track in being consistent in my daily intention to move and live mindfully. It is so much easier when there is a supportive group to share the journey.
The New Year is also a time to be very intentional about the physical self care that keeps us living with more energy and aliveness on every level. When any one of you can not be present, know that you are really missed.

So bring your mat or blanket and move together.

Be Blessed this day.
Anne

Small Groups

We have started two small groups in our church. We call them pilot small groups as we are studying a book by John Townsend called Making Small Groups Work. We are not only preparing ourselves to start new small groups; but we are also already experiencing the support and new life that small groups tend to promote.

There has been enough interest in these groups that we have started a second group. We are calling these Pilot Group l and Pilot Group 11. When we have studied together for 2-3 months, we believe there will be some people in these groups who will want to go out and start a new group in their homes. We believe these groups will be tools not only to draw us closer and encourage spiritual fervor among us; but also to bring our friends and neighbors into our homes and eventually into the church.

At this time, these groups are meeting in the home of Jack and Jeannie Adkins. Each group meets twice in a month for pot-luck, study, fellowship and prayer. Pilot group I is meeting each 1st and 3rd Monday evening of the month at 6:30 Pilot group 11 is meeting each 2nd and 4th Monday evening of the month at 6:30 These groups work best with around 10 or 12 people.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

I want to thank everyone in the church for your contributions to the prayer shawl ministry. Some of you have donated Yarn. Many of you are a blessing over and over by your participation on a Sunday morning when we gather together and lay our hands on a shawl praying sincere prayers for the recipient.

Since our pastor has encouraged group prayers in this way, we have had continual gratefulness expressed by the recipients describing the tangible love, comfort and warmth they feel through the shawl.

It is a blessing and joy to serve God in this way by serving His precious children. I find it never grows dull to serve, because as we follow Him, He always has new and unique ways for us to pass on a bit of His love.

Gratefully, Jeannie

SHUMC Parlor
“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”
By Rebecca Skloot
Henrietta Lacks, a poor Southern tobacco farmer, was buried in an unmarked grave sixty years ago. Yet her cells – taken without her knowledge – became one of the most important tools in medical research. Known to science as HeLa, the first “immortal” human cells grown in culture are still alive today, and have been bought and sold by the millions. Rebecca Skloot takes us on an extraordinary journey from the “colored” ward of Johns Hopkins Hospital in the 1950s to EastBaltimore today, where Henrietta’s family struggles with her legacy.

Child Share Says Thank You

A big thank you for the wonderful gifts you shared with the children of Child Share and for the cookies you provided for the Christmas Party. SHUMC always comes through for this organization and is greatly appreciated. A thank you card is on the bulletin board signed by children and families of Child Share.

Thanks for sharing with me – Happy New Year -
